How Buyback Works

An overview of CoinDuffle's buyback program — sell your coins and precious metals back to CoinDuffle for competitive, real-time pricing.

How Buyback Works

CoinDuffle's buyback program gives you a convenient way to sell your coins, bullion, and precious metals when you're ready to liquidate part (or all) of your collection. Instead of finding a private buyer, negotiating prices, and dealing with the logistics yourself, CoinDuffle offers competitive pricing based on real-time metal markets and handles the entire process.

What Is the Buyback Program?

The buyback program allows you to sell eligible items directly to CoinDuffle. Here's how it works at a high level:

  1. Browse the buyback catalog — See which items CoinDuffle is currently buying and at what price.
  2. Get a quote — Select the items you want to sell and the quantities. CoinDuffle generates a quote based on current market prices.
  3. Accept the quote — If you're happy with the offer, lock in the price.
  4. Ship your items — Send your items to CoinDuffle using the provided shipping instructions.
  5. Get paid — Once your items are received and verified, payment is sent to you.

What Items Are Accepted?

The buyback program accepts a wide range of precious metals and coins, including:

  • Gold coins — American Gold Eagles, Canadian Gold Maple Leafs, Krugerrands, and other popular bullion coins
  • Silver coins — American Silver Eagles, Canadian Silver Maple Leafs, Morgan Silver Dollars, Peace Dollars, and junk silver
  • Platinum coins — American Platinum Eagles, Canadian Platinum Maple Leafs
  • Gold bars — Major brand gold bars (PAMP Suisse, Valcambi, Perth Mint, etc.)
  • Silver bars — Major brand silver bars in standard sizes
  • Graded coins — PCGS and NGC certified coins (pricing depends on the specific coin and grade)

The buyback catalog on CoinDuffle shows the current list of accepted items. Items not in the catalog may still be accepted — contact support to inquire about specific pieces.

How Pricing Works

Buyback prices are based on the live spot price of the underlying metal, minus a spread. This spread covers CoinDuffle's costs for processing, verification, and resale.

For example, if gold is at $2,000/oz:

  • CoinDuffle might buy a 1 oz American Gold Eagle at $1,960 (a $40 spread)
  • CoinDuffle might buy a generic 1 oz gold bar at $1,970 (a $30 spread)

Spreads vary by product type and are influenced by:

  • Demand — Items in higher demand typically have tighter spreads (better prices for you).
  • Liquidity — Common bullion items that are easy to resell have tighter spreads.
  • Metal type — Each metal has different market dynamics.
  • Product type — Government-issued coins typically have tighter spreads than generic rounds.

For graded and collectible coins, pricing is based on the numismatic market value rather than (or in addition to) the metal content.

Who Can Use the Buyback Program?

The buyback program is available to all CoinDuffle users, but you must:

  • Have a verified account — KYC identity verification is required before you can sell to CoinDuffle. See Verifying Your Identity.
  • Have a connected payout method — You'll need a connected Stripe account to receive payment. See Getting Paid.
  • Be a US resident — The buyback program is currently available to US residents only.

Why Sell to CoinDuffle?

  • Competitive pricing — Quotes are based on live market data, so you're getting a fair price.
  • Convenience — No haggling, no meeting strangers, no marketplace listing fees. Just get a quote and ship.
  • Speed — From accepting a quote to receiving payment typically takes 5–10 business days.
