Product Categories

CoinDuffle organizes products into a clear category hierarchy so you can quickly find what you're looking for, whether that's a specific type of bullion for investment or a rare collectible coin for your collection.

Precious Metals

Gold

Gold is the most popular precious metal on CoinDuffle. You'll find a wide range of gold products:

  • Gold Coins — American Gold Eagles, Canadian Gold Maple Leafs, South African Krugerrands, Austrian Philharmonics, Chinese Gold Pandas, and more.
  • Gold Bars — Available in sizes ranging from 1 gram to 1 kilogram, from mints like PAMP Suisse, Valcambi, Perth Mint, and others.
  • Gold Rounds — Privately minted gold rounds, often with lower premiums than government-issued coins.
  • Fractional Gold — Smaller denominations (1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz) that make gold accessible at lower price points.

Silver

Silver offers an affordable entry point for precious metals investing and is popular with both investors and collectors:

  • Silver Coins — American Silver Eagles, Canadian Silver Maple Leafs, Morgan Silver Dollars, Peace Dollars, and world silver coins.
  • Silver Bars — Ranging from 1 oz to 100 oz, from brands like Engelhard, Johnson Matthey, Sunshine Minting, and more.
  • Silver Rounds — Privately minted rounds in a huge variety of designs, often the lowest-premium option for silver.
  • Junk Silver — Pre-1965 US coins (dimes, quarters, half dollars) that contain 90% silver. Sold by face value or weight.

Platinum

Platinum products are rarer than gold or silver on the market:

  • Platinum Coins — American Platinum Eagles, Canadian Platinum Maple Leafs, and other government-issued platinum coins.
  • Platinum Bars — Available in smaller sizes (1 oz, 10 oz) from major mints.

Palladium

The least common of the four major precious metals, but still available:

  • Palladium Coins — Canadian Palladium Maple Leafs and other limited issues.
  • Palladium Bars — Smaller bars from select mints.

Product Types

Bullion Bars

Bars are rectangular pieces of refined precious metal, typically stamped with the manufacturer's mark, metal purity, and weight. They come in standard sizes:

  • Gold Bars — 1 g, 5 g, 10 g, 1 oz, 10 oz, 1 kg
  • Silver Bars — 1 oz, 5 oz, 10 oz, 1 kg, 100 oz
  • Platinum Bars — 1 oz, 10 oz

Bars generally carry lower premiums than coins, making them popular with investors focused on accumulating metal at the lowest cost per ounce.

Bullion Coins

Government-issued coins made of precious metals. These carry a legal tender face value (though their metal content is worth far more) and are produced by national mints around the world. Popular series include:

  • American Eagles (Gold, Silver, Platinum)
  • Canadian Maple Leafs (Gold, Silver, Platinum, Palladium)
  • Austrian Philharmonics (Gold, Silver)
  • British Britannias (Gold, Silver)
  • Australian Kangaroos (Gold, Silver)

Collectible and Numismatic Coins

Coins valued primarily for their rarity, historical significance, condition, or aesthetic appeal rather than their metal content:

  • Key Date Coins — Coins from years with particularly low mintages that are highly sought after by collectors.
  • Error Coins — Coins with minting errors (double dies, off-center strikes, etc.) that make them unique and valuable.
  • Commemorative Coins — Special issues marking historical events, anniversaries, or notable figures.
  • Ancient Coins — Coins from ancient civilizations — Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and others.
  • World Coins — Coins from countries around the globe, spanning centuries of history.

Graded and Certified Coins

Coins that have been professionally evaluated and encapsulated by a third-party grading service. The two most respected services are:

  • PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service)
  • NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company)

Graded coins receive a numeric grade on the Sheldon scale (1–70), with 70 being a perfect specimen. Common grade ranges include:

Grade RangeCondition
MS/PF 69–70Near-perfect to perfect
MS/PF 65–68Gem quality
MS/PF 60–64Mint State (uncirculated)
AU 50–58About Uncirculated
EF/XF 40–45Extremely Fine
VF 20–35Very Fine
F 12–15Fine
VG 8–10Very Good
G 4–6Good

Graded coins are sealed in tamper-evident plastic holders (slabs) with a label showing the grade, certification number, and other details. They typically command higher premiums due to the certainty of their condition.

Tips for Category Shopping

  • Start broad, then filter — If you're not sure exactly what you want, start with a broad category like "Gold Coins" and use filters to narrow your results.
  • Check subcategories — Major categories have subcategories that can help you find specific products faster.
  • Use the metal price pages — Before shopping a specific metal, visit its price page to check current market conditions and use the calculator to estimate fair value for the weight you're considering.
