Creating Products

Product listings are the core of your CoinDuffle store. A well-crafted listing with clear photos, accurate descriptions, and competitive pricing will attract buyers and drive sales. This guide walks you through creating a product from start to finish.

Accessing the Product Editor

There are several ways to start creating a product:

  1. From the Dashboard — Click the Add Product button on your seller dashboard
  2. From Products List — Navigate to Seller Dashboard → Products and click New Product
  3. Quick Add — Use the quick-add modal (keyboard shortcut available) for rapid product creation

Required Fields

Every product listing needs the following at minimum:

FieldDescription
TitleThe product name displayed to buyers
PriceEither a fixed price or metal-based pricing configuration
DescriptionA detailed text description of the product
At least one imageA clear photo of the product
CategoryThe product category for browsing and search
QuantityHow many units you have in stock

Step-by-Step Product Creation

Step 1: Product Title

Your title is the first thing buyers see in search results. Make it descriptive and specific.

Good titles:

  • "2024 American Gold Eagle 1 oz BU"
  • "1921 Morgan Silver Dollar PCGS MS-65"
  • "10 oz Engelhard Silver Bar .999 Fine"
  • "1907 High Relief Saint-Gaudens $20 Gold NGC AU-58"

Poor titles:

  • "Gold Coin" (too vague)
  • "BEAUTIFUL RARE MORGAN DOLLAR MUST SEE!!!" (unprofessional, spammy)
  • "Silver" (insufficient detail)

Title best practices:

  • Include the year, denomination, and metal type
  • Mention the grading service and grade for certified coins
  • Include the weight and purity for bullion
  • Keep titles under 100 characters for clean display
  • Avoid ALL CAPS, excessive punctuation, or promotional language

Step 2: Product Description

Write a thorough description that tells buyers everything they need to know. A good description reduces buyer questions and increases confidence.

What to include:

  • Specifications — Year, mint mark, denomination, metal content, weight, purity, dimensions
  • Condition — Grade, certification details, or honest description of the coin's condition
  • Provenance — Where you acquired the item, notable collection history (if applicable)
  • Notable features — Varieties, errors, toning, eye appeal, special characteristics
  • What's included — Capsule, holder, box, certificate of authenticity, etc.

Example description:

This 2024 American Gold Eagle is a fresh 1 oz .9167 fine gold coin struck by the US Mint. This coin is in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition, pulled directly from a mint-sealed tube. Features the updated Type 2 design with an eagle portrait on the reverse by Jennie Norris. Ships in a protective capsule. Weight: 1.0000 troy oz. Fineness: .9167 (22 karat). Actual gold content: 1.0000 oz.

Step 3: Images

Upload at least one high-quality image. Multiple images significantly increase buyer confidence and conversion.

  • Primary image — The main photo shown in search results and at the top of the product page
  • Additional images — Show different angles, the reverse, close-ups of details, the edge, the item in its holder

See Images and Descriptions for detailed photography tips.

Step 4: Pricing

Choose your pricing strategy:

  • Fixed Price — Set a specific dollar amount. Best for numismatic coins, collectibles, and items whose value doesn't track spot price closely.
  • Metal-Based Price — Price is calculated automatically as: (Spot Price × Weight) + Premium. Best for bullion, modern bullion coins, and items that closely track metal spot prices.

See Pricing Strategies for a detailed comparison.

Step 5: Metal Type and Weight (if applicable)

If your product contains precious metal (especially for metal-based pricing):

  • Metal Type — Gold, Silver, Platinum, or Palladium
  • Weight — The actual precious metal content
  • Weight Unit — Troy ounces (oz), grams (g), or kilograms (kg)

These fields are essential for metal-based pricing and help buyers find your product when filtering by metal type.

See Metal Types and Weights for details.

Step 6: Category and SKU

  • Category — Select the most appropriate category for your product. Accurate categorization helps buyers find your listings when browsing.
  • SKU — Enter your internal SKU number for inventory tracking. This is visible only to you.

See Categories and SKUs for more on organizing your inventory.

Step 7: Inventory Quantity

Enter the number of units available for sale:

  • 1 — For unique items (specific certified coins, individual collectibles)
  • Multiple — For fungible items where you have several identical units (bullion coins, generic rounds, bars)

When inventory reaches zero, the product will be handled according to your out-of-stock setting.

Step 8: Review and Publish

Before publishing, review your listing carefully:

  • Title is accurate and descriptive
  • Description covers all relevant details
  • Images are clear and show the actual item
  • Price is competitive
  • Category is correct
  • SKU is set (for your records)
  • Inventory count is accurate

When you're satisfied, click Publish to make the product live on the marketplace. If you're not ready, click Save as Draft to come back later.

After Publishing

Once published, your product will:

  • Appear in marketplace search results
  • Be visible on your storefront page
  • Be available for purchase by buyers
  • Show up in category browsing pages

Editing Published Products

You can edit any field of a published product at any time. Changes take effect immediately. Navigate to Seller Dashboard → Products, find the product, and click Edit.

Monitoring Performance

After listing, keep an eye on:

  • Views — How many buyers are looking at your product
  • Questions — Answer buyer questions promptly to increase conversions
  • Comparable listings — Check what similar products are selling for and adjust your pricing if needed

Tips for Your First Listing

  • Start with your best items — Lead with products that will make a strong first impression
  • Price competitively — Your first sales and positive reviews are more valuable than maximum margin
  • Be thorough — More detail is always better than less for coin and bullion buyers
  • Respond quickly — If a buyer asks a question about your listing, respond within a few hours
