Importing from Shopify
Connect your Shopify store and import products into CoinDuffle. Step-by-step guide to OAuth connection, product selection, field mapping, and running your import.
Importing from Shopify
CoinDuffle integrates directly with Shopify through a secure OAuth connection, allowing you to import your existing Shopify product catalog. This guide walks you through every step of the process.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure:
- You have an active Shopify store with products listed
- You have admin or staff access to the Shopify store
- Your CoinDuffle seller account is set up and verified
- Your products have images uploaded in Shopify
Step 1: Connect Your Shopify Store
Initiating the Connection
- Navigate to Seller Dashboard → Import
- Select Shopify as your import source
- Click Connect Shopify Store
Entering Your Store URL
You'll be prompted to enter your Shopify store URL. Enter just the store name portion:
- If your store URL is
https://my-coin-shop.myshopify.com, entermy-coin-shop - Or enter the full URL — the system will extract the store name automatically
Authorizing Access
- You'll be redirected to Shopify's authorization page
- Review the permissions CoinDuffle is requesting:
- Read products — To access your product catalog
- Read product listings — To access published product data
- Read inventory — To access stock levels
- Click Install app to authorize the connection
- You'll be redirected back to CoinDuffle
Connection Status
After authorization, your Shopify connection status should show as Connected with your store name displayed. CoinDuffle can now read your product data.
Step 2: Select Products to Import
Once connected, CoinDuffle will load your Shopify product catalog. You'll see a list of all your Shopify products with:
- Product title
- Product image (thumbnail)
- Price
- Inventory quantity
- Published status
Selecting Products
- Import all — Click Select All to import your entire catalog
- Select individually — Check the box next to each product you want to import
- Filter first — Use the search and filter options to find specific products:
- Search by title or SKU
- Filter by collection
- Filter by product type
- Filter by vendor
What Not to Import
Consider skipping:
- Products you don't plan to sell on CoinDuffle
- Discontinued items with zero inventory
- Products that need significant rework before listing
- Digital products or services (CoinDuffle is for physical products)
Step 3: Review Field Mapping
Before running the import, CoinDuffle shows you how Shopify fields will map to CoinDuffle fields.
Automatic Field Mapping
| Shopify Field | CoinDuffle Field | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Title | Title | Direct mapping |
| Body HTML | Description | HTML formatting is preserved |
| Images | Images | All images are downloaded and stored |
| Price | Price (fixed) | Imported as a fixed price |
| Compare at Price | Not imported | Use CoinDuffle's discount feature instead |
| SKU | SKU | Direct mapping |
| Inventory Quantity | Quantity | Current stock level |
| Weight | Weight | Used if metal weight is applicable |
| Product Type | Category | Mapped to closest CoinDuffle category |
| Vendor | Not imported | Your store is the vendor on CoinDuffle |
| Tags | Used for metal type detection | Tags like "gold", "silver" may auto-set metal type |
Reviewing the Mapping
The mapping preview shows:
- How each field will be imported
- Any fields that couldn't be automatically mapped
- Products that may need attention (missing images, no price, etc.)
Adjusting Mappings
If the automatic category mapping doesn't look right, you can:
- Change the category mapping for individual products
- Set a default category for products that couldn't be automatically mapped
- Skip products with unresolvable mapping issues
Step 4: Run the Import
When you're satisfied with the product selection and field mapping:
- Click Start Import
- A progress indicator shows the import status
- CoinDuffle downloads product data and images from your Shopify store
- Each product is created as a draft in your CoinDuffle store
Import Speed
The speed depends on:
- Number of products being imported
- Number and size of images
- Network speed
Typical import times:
- 10 products: Under 1 minute
- 50 products: 2–5 minutes
- 200 products: 10–20 minutes
- 500+ products: 20–45 minutes
You can navigate away from the import page — the process continues in the background. You'll receive a notification when it's complete.
Step 5: Review Imported Products
After the import completes, navigate to Seller Dashboard → Products and filter by Draft status to see your imported products.
For Each Imported Product, Check:
- Title — Is it accurate and well-formatted for CoinDuffle?
- Description — Does the HTML render correctly? Does it need any edits?
- Images — Were all images imported successfully?
- Price — Is the imported price correct?
- Category — Was the product mapped to the right CoinDuffle category?
- SKU — Is your SKU intact?
- Quantity — Is the stock level accurate?
Post-Import Enhancements
For the best results on CoinDuffle, consider:
- Adding metal type and weight — If your products contain precious metals, set the metal type and weight for proper categorization and filtering
- Converting to metal-based pricing — For bullion products, switch from fixed to metal-based pricing by setting a premium
- Refining descriptions — Shopify descriptions may need tweaks for the CoinDuffle audience
- Optimizing images — If your Shopify images are below CoinDuffle's recommended 1200×1200px, consider upgrading them
Managing Your Shopify Connection
Disconnecting
To disconnect your Shopify store:
- Go to Seller Dashboard → Import → Shopify
- Click Disconnect
Disconnecting removes CoinDuffle's access to your Shopify store. Products already imported to CoinDuffle are not affected.
Re-Importing
If you add new products to your Shopify store after the initial import, you can run the import again. CoinDuffle will:
- Detect products already imported (by SKU) and skip them
- Import only new products
- Not overwrite any changes you've made to previously imported products
Syncing vs. One-Time Import
The Shopify import is a one-time import, not a live sync. Changes you make to products in Shopify after import are not reflected in CoinDuffle, and vice versa. You manage your CoinDuffle listings independently after import.
Troubleshooting
"Connection failed"
- Verify your Shopify store URL is correct
- Ensure you have admin access to the Shopify store
- Try disconnecting and reconnecting
"Some products failed to import"
- Check if the failed products have images (at least one image is required)
- Verify the products have a title and price
- Review the import error log for specific issues
"Images are missing"
- Large images may take longer to download. Wait and check again.
- If Shopify images are hosted on a CDN that restricts access, they may fail to download. Contact support.
"Categories don't match"
- Use the category mapping guide to understand how Shopify product types map to CoinDuffle categories
- You can always change categories after import
